The Viera High School Marching Band is the largest student organization at Viera High. 165 members strong, the 2008 Marching Hawks consist of all VHS band students. These students come from many different schools in the county, including DeLaura Middle, Johnson Middle, Kennedy Middle, McNair Middle, several area private schools, and some other public schools. Marching Band is a GREAT way to meet new people at a new school, just one good reason why the marching band is such a good organization to be a part of. The Marching Hawks are known for outstanding performances and a great social atmosphere. There wouldn't be this many students in the band if they weren't having the time of their lives! Rehearsals begin at the annual "BAND CAMP" starting next year in early August. Band Camp runs 8:30am - 12:00pm the first two days, and 8am - 6pm each day through the next week and will conclude with a picnic and a performance. Band students will also celebrate the end of camp and the beginning of the year with our first trip - Islands of Adventure! This trip is not a performance based trip, rather, it is a fun trip intended to reward the hard working students with some fun. During the school year, marching rehearsals will take place on TUESDAY'S AND THURSDAY'S AFTER-SCHOOL FROM 3:30pm - 6:00pm. The band will perform at Varsity Football games which are typically on Friday evenings beginning in September. Marching Band will conclude with the final football game of the year, typically in early November. Marching Band season is less than 12 weeks long! The marching band is an extension of the classroom and is a required part of the Brevard County Public Schools High School Band curriculum. There are no exceptions for marching band participation, however, students who participate in VHS fall sports may be excused from some rehearsals with permission from the directors. 2009 Freshmen and new members - please visit often for updates and look for the New Member Section around the 1st of the year.
